The Prototype for a Self-Sustainable, Off-the-Grid Community in the Delaware Valley
A Healthy Lifestyle is one in which we invest in the care of our selves, our neighbors and The Earth. Eden Ecovillage is the prototype to a modern day Ecovillage that will attempt to put into practice tenets of sustainability, bioregeneration, permaculture and participatory democracy.
A community center will be situated at the center of the ecovillage where residents and
members can converge to hold meetings, have events, recreate, socialize, and commune.
Through the development of greenhouses, verticle farming, and gardens, we aim to provide sufficient vegetation for the community to rely on for its own basic needs and to help meet sustainable development goals. Moreover, partnerships developed with local restaurants, produce stands and grocery stores will be developed so that Eden Ecovillage will be a source of bounty for the surrounding community.
Our Ecosystem will thrive off of systems regenerating one another. We plan to harness waste to use as fertilizer for the crops that we will consume. Solar panels, wind generation, and a hydroelectric system will meet the energy needs of our village. Good will be refurbished, reused and recycled. Thus, in orer to meet sustainable development goals, nothing will be waste in the ecovillage.
Garments, tapestry, and other woven goods may be produced by a weaving machine that will be stored and maintained on site. Classes will also be offered to residents, members and laypersons to instruct people on how to tapestry, weave and make one's own clothing. In line with our principle of self-reliance, this concept exists in order to help us meet sustainable development goals.
The ecovillage will utilize an age old system of consenus decision making to develop unity around governance and help maintain social cohesion. This direct-democratic method of governance embraces inclusion, tolerance, and dissent as important principles to developing agreements.
At Eden Ecovillage, we aim to utilize resources in a renewable fashion. Methane gas from our camel farm, for example, will be converted into synthetic gas to power a small glass factory. The glass factory will produce glass bottles that will bottle the camel milk. Similarly, waste will be harnessed and utilized as fertilizer to help nourish our farms and gardens that will be utilized to sustain our residents.
In general, the central Ethos: "Gaia - One Ecosystem" will be upheld and any concept that subverts this Ethos would be nullified. As such, the Ecovillage Countil would be established further advance the cause of the founding organization.
